Hey guys, great job on another clan war victory defeating Jagermeister 79-76! They are an experienced warring clan and won 31 wars but we handed them a defeat, adding one to their loss column. This was a close one and came down to the wire. We won due to our high participation - using 91% of our attacks compared to 79% from the enemy. As I watched the replays of the attacks I did notice a couple of recurring themes especially on the attacks that earned 0 or 1 star. Here were my observations and areas that we can improve on in some of our failed attacks. When scouting bases and settling on the base you like remember to go through this checklist of tips.
1) Always lure and kill the cc troops first if possible.
When you scout the base beforehand select the enemy's clan castle to see the attack coverage radius so you know where your troops need to be to lure out the cc troops. Then find an open spot away from the enemy defenses to lure the troops to so it can be a fair fight. You don't want your troops to be attacking buildings while the cc troops are quickly taking out all of your army. I saw one attack where the enemy cc troops single-handedly killed a golem and about 15 giants. That's half of your army obliterated by 20-25 archers. Instead lure those 20 archers to a corner of the base and take them out with 20 or 25 archers of your own. If the castle is centralized then you'll need to use a troop that attacks defenses to penetrate the base to lure the castle such as a single giant, hog or balloon.
2) Count the cc troops that come out.
When scouting the base before you attack know how many troops are in the clan castle. If there are 25 troop units in the castle and you only see 10 archers come out then you know the rest still need to be lured. All 25 are not usually lured by a single archer or barb. But if you drop a higher level troop like a giant or hog sometimes you'll get all of the troops to come out at once. Nothing spoils your plans like killing the cc troops only to drop all of your troops and then realize you didn't kill all of the cc. Easy fix. Just know how many to expect and count the troops.
3) Get those corners early while you still have troops.
It's easy to get caught up in the heat of the battle and forget about the corners. After you've already released all of your troops you realize that you have no troops left for the corners and you're running out of time and you end up getting 97% and missing out on one star. After you've killed the cc troops remember to drop one barb or archer on each corner to take out those builder huts while the rest of your army is doing its work.
4) Build the right army for the job.
Since SC gives us a 24 hour prep day you should have plenty of time to scout bases and determine what army will work best on the base you wish to attack. It may be hogs, dragons, giants, pekkas, balloons, etc. or a combination. Whatever that army is be sure you have analyzed the defense and build the right army for the job. And request the right cc troops for your war attacks to complement your army. A farming army with only tier 1 troops like barbs, archers and goblins is never going to be the right army to war with. Know the difference between farming armies and trophy armies and practice different trophy armies so you'll be well-versed in different attack styles and can choose the right one for the job. I'll cover trophy armies and attack strategies in another post.
Stay tuned, to be continued.....
